Event Length: 60 minutes

This conference is restricted to US and Canadian participants only

Despite improvements in institutional occupational health care and engineering controls, Laboratory Animal Allergy (LAA), and the associated Occupational Asthma (OA), remain the most common, serious, permanent diseases of laboratory workers exposed to laboratory animals. Reducing the incidence of new cases of LAA and managing existing cases involves a range of different approaches, coordinated within an organizational program. Any weakness in LAA management measures may increase the risk of either, individuals or specific groups, developing LAA. This presentation will provide an overview of current management systems and techniques used to meet the challenge of LAA.

Presenter(s) Jim Wallace, Science Associates, London, UK

Following tenure as Head of Biological Services for major UK research organizations, Jim Wallace founded Science Associates to provide training, management and consultancy services to the global biomedical research community. Science Associates currently provides consultancy services and seminars on the management of LAA to commercial and research organizations in Europe and North America, with a special focus on engineering controls and developing LAA management programs. Jim is credited with over 20 publications in cancer research, laboratory animal science and laboratory animal allergy (LAA) and has been an invited speaker in Australia, Europe, Japan and North America.
